We, the People...
Linda Heron Wind
Acting locally and thinking globally takes on a new meaning when we view
it from the level of unity consciousnesses. Global becomes the awareness
that our connections with each other around the world and with the Earth
and all her inhabitants operate whether we are conscious of them or not.
The evidence that we have of this comes from all levels of our lives.
We cannot exploit, blow up, or dump our waste in other areas around the
world without having it affect our own air, water, economy, and karma.
The local part comes from the awareness that our individual choices in
each moment affect the whole. We no longer have the luxury of taking care
of our own and letting the others waste away, of blessing our own armed
forces and letting the others be maimed and killed.
The greater awareness now
by consumers and businesses alike about the need for green technology
and sustainable solutions shows me that we are on the verge of an amazing
r-evolution. Yes, there are still those that don't get it on the spiritual
level, but even they are seeing the financial wisdom of green and sustainable.
The rising gas prices have led many to take a good look at the way in
which we are living and question why we are so hooked into the materialism
that keeps us working long hours and being stressed over finances to have
more and bigger things. Many that I talk to really just want to be able
to have the time to enjoy what they have, to spend time with friends,
and to get out in nature. The impact on awareness and motivation to change
is well worth the individual hardship that high gas prices may cause.
So we need to be aware of
our connections to all things and beings and, at the same time, make choices
that honor that awareness as we move through our own lives. Power to change
the world resides within each of us in the ability to make choices with
awareness in this moment. Create whatever reminders you need to hold that
awareness as you go throughout the day. Perhaps we need to write a Declaration
of Interdependence that might go something like this:
We, the People of Earth, acknowledge our interdependence
and oneness with all things - all people, animals, plants, minerals, water,
air, fire, earth and stars. We choose to live our lives in a conscious
way that honors all of life and make choices in each moment that support
the whole. We will use only what we need and share what we have, for we
know that what happens to others that live on this planet with us will
happen to us. In fact, we know in our hearts that there is no "other"
- we are One People, One Earth, and One Heart.
One Heart beats
within
Your heart and mine are the same
Only minds differ
