The Language of Illusion or the Language of Light

by Linda Heron Wind, Ph.D.

Language has the power to create, whether it is the spoken word or the inner dialog. On an outer level it sends out vibrations that affect all that is around us, calling like vibration to our experience. It even vibrates the cells of our bodies to dance to its rhythm. The inner more subtle vibration that is created by our self-talk entrains our emotions and likewise draws like vibrations from the void of possibilities to come into the physical world. As I become a better observer of myself I am beginning to discern the subtle differences in the language that supports the illusion and that which resonates with the heart and Light.

Nearly every major spiritual or mystical tradition teaches us that there is no time or space and that everything we ever were or will be are here now. Even physics supports this non-locality of energy and that we simply are energy. The concept of being here and now in the present moment is what we strive for and yet, even as I write these words, I am aware of the language of illusion creeping in. Both the past and future tense (in the first sentence of this paragraph "were" and "will be") are illusion for everything is now. Words such as "striving" imply that there is something that isn't here now that we are trying to get to and that is illusion also.

So I am listening to how I talk about my life as a way to become more aware of what my subconscious beliefs are about what is available to me now and what I believe is not. If my belief, for example, that I do not already have awareness creates unawareness, my attempts "to become more aware" will be futile. Now my conscious mind, while it can follow the logic of this, is having a fit because it doesn't know how to talk in the language of light. Language of the mind developed as a result of experience in the illusion and, thus, is one of the primary ways that we stay immersed in this physical dimension.

Another way to think about the language of illusion is from the perspective of how it limits our reality. I hear people all the time saying how they can't do something or that they are not a certain way. In a sense that is a command to the universe to make whatever we believe we are not appear in the illusion. The realization of our wholeness in the moment is directly related to our ability to release the limitations we impose upon ourselves by our beliefs and words. This seems like a difficult task and yet, perhaps it is the easiest thing in the world. It depends upon what we wish to believe about it.

So what is the language of the Light? It is a feeling-tone language that is made up of words, images, or simply heart resonance, but it always creates a feeling of lightness in the heart area when there is in-the-moment truth. Illusion, in this same feeling sense, seems heavy and closed by contrast. For example, saying that I have to work hard to get somewhere that I am not now, feels heavy. On the other hand, saying that I am already exactly where I need to be, feels light. With this method of feeling the resonance of particular words, beliefs and sentences, we can discern whether they support the illusion (heavy) or resonate with the Light (light).

As you continue the practice of staying in the moment, a heavy feeling will alert you to a digression your mind is making into the world of illusion. Lightness of being is a sign of presence where we are open and free to give and receive the Light and Love of the universe.

Illusion's language
Says we need to get somewhere
There's no place but here

Surrender to the Light
You are complete this moment
Nowhere to get to
