Birthing Light into the World

by Linda Heron Wind, Ph.D.

Birthing is a process that seems to have its own timing and rhythm. Bringing light into the world through our physical bodies is like bringing a soul into human form through birthing. If we resist, the process slows down, but birth is inevitable. It will happen in spite of our resistances. Cooperation with the process makes it shorter and more tolerable, yet even knowing that, we still resist out of fear and our need to direct the process.

Our bodies are a bit like flashlights, if the batteries are in alignment and nothing disrupts the flow, light is what happens. Resistance is the way we disrupt the current of spiritual energy that flows through our bodies and becomes the light of the world. The experiences we have in our lives are there to reveal the blocks to this flow. As we are now faced with a intense inflow of light into our bodies, the experiences we are having are often very intense whenever a resistance is present.

Most of us are aware at this point that to achieve a higher consciousness that there are certain states of mind that must be released. For example, judgment must be released to attain acceptance. Illusion must be released to see what is true. Distractions must be released to attain focus. Attachments must be released to find freedom. Our awareness of these blocks to the light has grown over the last few years and our ability to accept, see truth, focus, and find freedom has grown.

On a more subtle inner level, however, there is another set of resistances or blocks that must now be cleared for us to become the true flashlights that we are.

  • First we must let go of inner conflict in order to attain inner peace. There is no way to achieve or experience peace in the outer world until we can put an end to inner conflict and be in peace.
  • Second, we must let go of confusion to step into inner power. I can't tell you how often I hear people say they are confused. Confusion, as a state of mind, will give way to power when consciously released.
  • Third, we must let go of inner constraint to find inner passion. Passion is the energy that fuels creativity and we often constrain it because of our fears of change.
  • Fourth, we must release control to move into presence. Again resistance in the form of control gives us a false sense of security, like damming a river to control the flow of water to prevent flooding when flooding is nature's way to renew the land. The river will eventually have its way despite our efforts to control it.

These inner states of peace, power, passion, and presence allow the light to shine through us with no effort or agenda on our part. So when you find things being difficult or intense, ask if one of the c's is present - conflict, confusion, constraint, or control. If it is, have the conscious intent to let it go and feel yourself stepping more fully into the four p's - peace, power, passion, and presence.

As we move into this holiday season, perhaps this awareness will help us be able to shine the light of unity out into the world. Birthing light through our bodies can be joyful when we can stay aware and release the resistances as they appear. Shining the light together will change the world.

Presence is stillness
In the face of raging storms
And beautiful songs

Fighting with what is
Is not working anymore
Release into peace

Confusion is mind
Pretending it does not hear
The heart's clear message

Passion is calling
To follow or turn away
That is the question
