I Believe in You

Linda Heron Wind
Some of you may have seen the video on U-tube of the young
boy who addressed the teachers' conference in Texas recently. His words
were powerful as he asked the teachers, "Do you believe in me? Do
you believe in my classmates?" What was so moving about his questions
was that they touched into the fundamental piece that is missing from
our educational system as well as our culture as a whole. When people
are raised in a society that is based on competition, believing in each
other and holding each other's dreams in our hearts are foreign concepts.
Children today are painfully aware of the separation in our world and
they wish to heal it.
We have come to the end of the time when individualism and self-absorption
at the cost of others is a workable strategy for success. The time that
we are moving into requires us to understand our connection, not only
to the other people who inhabit the planet, but to everything in the universe.
Connection 101 will be a required course in pre-school,
for parents, for educators, for politicians, for leaders, for business
people, for inventors, for scientists, and for all humans in the not too
distant future. If it is not, we are not likely to be around on the Earth
much longer. She says that we must learn to play fair in the sandbox of
life with respect for all those playing with us - or we will not be allowed
to play any longer.
Each one of us can join the consciousness change in progress
as we make choices in our own lives. We can ask ourselves what we can
do each day that supports our own dreams as well as those of others. We
can walk in nature and ask what the trees, plants, animals and Earth herself
need us to do to respect and support their existence. We can examine the
chatter that goes on in our heads to see if it is respectful and supportive
of others and ourselves, and change it if necessary.
Most of all we can believe - in our dreams, in the dreams
of others, in the most amazing and beautiful world that we are part of.
When our hearts are filled up with believing there will be no room for
wars and conflicts, no room for abuse and violence, no room for anyone
feeling less or more than anyone else. Beauty and harmony will surround
us and love will rule the planet once more. As we look into each other's
eyes, we will feel without its even being spoken, the belief that we have
in each other.
I believe in you! I believe in your dreams
and your inherent value to the world. Please believe in me.
Connection creates
A space to heal when I say
"I believe in you"
