The Many "Secret" Paths

Once it hit Oprah, the Secret, or Law of Attraction, seems to have gone mainstream. Many of us have been working with this law for some time but it is exciting to see that so many people are now becoming aware of it. At the same time there are a lot of questions that seem to be coming up around different spiritual approaches to using the Law of Attraction. It seems to me that there are many ways to reach the same place.

Some traditions stress being clear about what you want and then feeling as if it were already here. This can be done by making present-time statements about your gratitude for whatever it is that you want. Getting the good feeling going is the key to making this work. Basically you focus on what you want and feel like it is already here, instead of focusing on what you don't want.

Other traditions try to stay away from wanting anything. Here the strategy is to just be grateful for what you have to the point of feeling abundant right now. What you notice when doing this is that you have an awful lot more than you thought you did. The more grateful you are and the more abundant you feel, the more abundance comes to you. In this approach it is not important to focus on what you want.

Another strategy says that wanting things is part of the ego and trying to manifest what the ego wants can lead to suffering. Here the way is to find joy within through taming the mind and letting go of the ego. Sometimes this is accomplished by service to others and sometimes by long periods of meditation.

Still another path is to connect with the higher self before deciding on what to create. It says that when we manifest something it is important to be sure it is coming from the higher not the lower self. We can often tell by whether we feel attached to what we would like. The higher self is detached from the goal of manifestation where the lower self tends to get attached. So the trick here is to want something and feel like it is already here but not be attached to it.

So you can see that the one thing that all these paths have in common is that, when you follow them, you end up holding a very high vibration of peace and joy within you. I believe that is the critical ingredient regardless of which path you follow. Without it, none of the paths will bring what you would like to achieve, whether it is a specific thing, abundance, or nirvana.

Practice joy today! It is at the heart of every secret law.

Surrender to now
And what is in front of me
Joy comes when I do
