December 2005 Full Moon in Gemini
Dec 15 (4:16 AM Eastern Standard Time)

My mind wants logic
But my heart feels its answer
With no argument

I am sacred prayer
With each thought, feeling and deed
Each holy moment

What's Happening?

The full moon in Gemini calls us to honor the sacredness of communication. While we understand our inherent connectedness with each other on a spiritual level, in the physical dimension communication with sound or word is what most often connects us with others. Be sure that the vibrations you put out with your sounds and words are consistent with your spiritual beliefs and intent. Then they become a tool for creating sacred unity.

The Earth is being infused with large amounts of light at this time. At the point on the wheel of the year that we are surrounded in outer darkness, let this light fill your heart and celebrate the Solstice on December 21st as the rebirth of the light within you. Rededicate yourself, shining the divine light through your physical being and out into the world in this time of darkness.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS AND CAMPS

Emotional Education for Parents and Children
Facilitated by Linda Heron Wind

You probably never went to school to learn about the purpose of your emotions, how they can be effectively expressed, and what they can teach you. If you are like most people you learned about your emotions from your parents who didn't know any more than you did. This usually results in a variety of ineffective ways of responding to your emotions that go all the way from stuffing them to projecting them onto others. Wouldn't it be nice if you and your children could learn together how to work with emotions in a way that enhances family relationships and promotes good emotional skills in everyday life? That is exactly what this series of classes is about. In 4 sessions of 2 hours each you will acquire the knowledge and practical skills that will provide a solid foundation for your family to work effectively with the emotions that surface in everyday living.

Using stories, role playing, self control techniques, and problem solving skills, parents and their children will learn to identify, express, learn from, and resolve their emotions as well as how to respond in helpful ways to the emotions of others.

Outline

  • Recognizing emotions in ourselves and in others
  • Techniques for working with emotions in the family
  • Tools for self-control
  • Distinguishing between emotions and behaviors

Ritual

Dedication Ritual - This would be good to begin on the full moon and complete on the Solstice. Write a document that describes what your life is dedicated to. Light a candle and perhaps do the meditation first to open to the light that is coming in now and then sit with paper and pen or at the computer and compose a dedication document that you can print or copy onto pretty paper when you are finished. What is your purpose here and where does your passion lead you? What can you put your energy into? Then on the solstice, dedicate your heart, hands, voice, work, prayers, etc. as you read your dedication document to at least one other person who can witness your vows.

I hold the light high
With no fear of dark places
Within me or you

Meditation Exercise

Finding the Light Within - Get in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. Imagine yourself walking down a corridor that is dark, either in nature or in a structure. Ahead you see a faint light. You feel with your feet as you walk, keeping your gaze fixed on the small flame. As you get closer the flame grows and it is now a fire burning with a bright intensity. You move as close to the light as you can, becoming aware of the feeling of light that is moving in your body. Allowing the intense light to burn through any resistances you may have until you begin to glow like that intense light. The glow becomes a river of light moving through you - coming down through your crown and moving out into the Earth beneath your feet. It moves with a feeling of lightness and ease. Joy fills your inner space as the river of light keeps moving. When you head back down the corridor it is no longer dark, as the light that emanates from you illuminates the path home. Take a few breaths and come back to your body, holding the river of light in place.

Move through the portal
All resistance left behind
Embodying light

Birthing Light into the World

Birthing is a process that seems to have its own timing and rhythm. Bringing light into the world through our physical bodies is like bringing a soul into human form through birthing. If we resist, the process slows down, but birth is inevitable. It will happen in spite of our resistances. Cooperation with the process makes it shorter and more tolerable, yet even knowing that, we still resist out of fear and our need to direct the process.

Our bodies are a bit like flashlights, if the batteries are in alignment and nothing disrupts the flow, light is what happens. Resistance is the way we disrupt the current of spiritual energy that flows through our bodies and becomes the light of the world. The experiences we have in our lives are there to reveal the blocks to this flow. As we are now faced with a intense inflow of light into our bodies, the experiences we are having are often very intense whenever a resistance is present.

Most of us are aware at this point that to achieve a higher consciousness that there are certain states of mind that must be released. For example, judgment must be released to attain acceptance. Illusion must be released to see what is true. Distractions must be released to attain focus. Attachments must be released to find freedom. Our awareness of these blocks to the light has grown over the last few years and our ability to accept, see truth, focus, and find freedom has grown.

On a more subtle inner level, however, there is another set of resistances or blocks that must now be cleared for us to become the true flashlights that we are.

  • First we must let go of inner conflict in order to attain inner peace. There is no way to achieve or experience peace in the outer world until we can put an end to inner conflict and be in peace.
  • Second, we must let go of confusion to step into inner power. I can't tell you how often I hear people say they are confused. Confusion, as a state of mind, will give way to power when consciously released.
  • Third, we must let go of inner constraint to find inner passion. Passion is the energy that fuels creativity and we often constrain it because of our fears of change.
  • Fourth, we must release control to move into presence. Again resistance in the form of control gives us a false sense of security, like damming a river to control the flow of water to prevent flooding when flooding is nature's way to renew the land. The river will eventually have its way despite our efforts to control it.

These inner states of peace, power, passion, and presence allow the light to shine through us with no effort or agenda on our part. So when you find things being difficult or intense, ask if one of the c's is present - conflict, confusion, constraint, or control. If it is, have the conscious intent to let it go and feel yourself stepping more fully into the four p's - peace, power, passion, and presence.

As we move into this holiday season, perhaps this awareness will help us be able to shine the light of unity out into the world. Birthing light through our bodies can be joyful when we can stay aware and release the resistances as they appear. Shining the light together will change the world.

Presence is stillness
In the face of raging storms
And beautiful songs

Fighting with what is
Is not working anymore
Release into peace

Confusion is mind
Pretending it does not hear
The heart's clear message

Passion is calling
To follow or turn away
That is the question
