September Full Moon in Pisces - (Sept 17, 2005 - 10:01 PM Eastern Daylight Time)

Harmony is love
For the opposites within,
Differences outside

What's Happening?

The Pisces Full Moon brings us into awareness of deep feelings that we often wish to escape. Yet we can soothe these feelings with quiet and with water. When we do, a doorway opens to a deeper awareness of what is truly alive both within and around us. With the intensity of energy in general and the multitude of solar flares right now, sitting by the water or in it is a salve for our jangled body systems. Take the time to connect with nature and water in particular during this full moon.

We are moving toward the Fall Equinox next week on September 22nd and must honor its movement within us. As the leaves change color and fall from trees and bright blossoms of summer begin to fade, look closely within you to find what needs to be released. Perhaps it is something completed or old patterns now ready to be composted. Whatever you find that does not feed the life you wish to live, now is the time for cleaning house, both the inner and the outer house.

Sparkling waters
Reflecting the sun's light and mine
Mirroring what is real

I'm moving forward
Inch by inch I clear away
Keeping what feeds me

UPCOMING FALL WORKSHOPS AND CAMPS

Emotional Education for Parents and Children
Facilitated by Linda Heron Wind

You probably never went to school to learn about the purpose of your emotions, how they can be effectively expressed, and what they can teach you. If you are like most people you learned about your emotions from your parents who didn't know any more than you did. This usually results in a variety of ineffective ways of responding to your emotions that go all the way from stuffing them to projecting them onto others. Wouldn't it be nice if you and your children could learn together how to work with emotions in a way that enhances family relationships and promotes good emotional skills in everyday life? That is exactly what this series of classes is about. In 4 sessions of 2 hours each you will acquire the knowledge and practical skills that will provide a solid foundation for your family to work effectively with the emotions that surface in everyday living.

Using stories, role playing, self control techniques, and problem solving skills, parents and their children will learn to identify, express, learn from, and resolve their emotions as well as how to respond in helpful ways to the emotions of others.

Ritual

Releasing with Leaves - I remember as a kid going out to gather colorful leaves and dipping them in paraffin to preserve their beauty, or gathering them up for a bonfire. Go out during this full moon to gather some leaves. Give some serious thought to what you need to clear away within you that does not feed the life you want to live. Find a leaf or two for each thing and by the light of the full moon, name those things, one by one, and put a leaf in a pile outside or in a pan or bucket (or cauldron for Harry Potter fans). When the moon rises, set it on fire and sing or tone while they burn.

Leaves falling from trees
Fuel for the fire that burns
Away old patterns

Meditation Exercise

Looking for What is Alive - Get yourself in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. You might want to summon a guide or animal helper to make this journey with you. Imagine that you are going through a doorway. Once through, look around and see what is there, then look for the next doorway. Do the same in that room and keep going through these doorways until you are in the center of yourself and there are no more doorways. Ask what is truly alive there and see what appears. You must ask like you really want to know. Stay focused and completely open in surrender to what is there, until you are aware of what is singing and dancing within you, what it is that shines with its own light. When you find it, if it feels right, merge with it or talk to it to become aware of how you can nurture and feed this seed growing within you.

I travel within
Moving through door after door
Seeking aliveness

Seasons of Change

As I was watching the leaves fall from the trees the other day, I began to reflect on the losses in my life so far this year. In early spring our old cat died and then in early summer, my best friend of 30 some years died. Now in early fall, our older dog just passed. Of course, we have also had new arrivals, like the unexpected foal born in April. There seems to be a lot of coming and going this year in my life, and, I suspect, in many peoples lives. Someone suggested that it might be a sign of my age, but I believe that it has a bit to do with the increase in the speed of time and the amazing transformational process that is taking place on Earth.

Earth has always been the place to be if one needs to learn more about letting go and non-attachment. Her seasons are full of movement and change - some things coming into physical form and some things leaving it.
Snow melts and evaporates only to fall again as rain and be carried to the ocean or taken in and transformed by a plant. One thing changes to another and then another in large and small cycles - spiral dances that wind their way through the elements, kingdoms, and species, through the seasons and years with no beginning and no end.

So even with such large losses this year, it is somehow comforting to feel this ancient rhythm moving in my life. It is also interesting that because the drumbeat is faster these days and change is accelerated, it is easier to see that there is a rhythm that directs all that would otherwise seem quite chaotic. Change is no longer something that occasionally disrupts our linear existence, it is a constant dance partner that we meet each morning.

Tsunamis and hurricanes, earthquakes and terrorists - these are also part of the spiral dance in this time of great change. Refusing to dance is not an option. We must learn to move with the river and bend in the wind, surf on the waves and explode with the volcanoes. Our bodies are Earth, so as long as we are here in physical form, we will rock and roll with her. Now more than ever is a time for us to spend time in nature and find a unity with her. Whatever we resist pulls us into conflict and chaos. When we can become one with the other, tranquility is the result.

I know these are flowery words that are easy to say when you are not in the midst of a hurricane, but change touches us all each day, no matter how small or large. Each unexpected event is something we can meet and say, "Shall we dance?" Great masters were able to do this and so shall we when all is said and done.

No ending, no beginning
No after, no before
I hold you so close to me
I release you to be so free
For I am within you
And you are in me
For I am within you
And you are in me
