August 2004 (Full Moon in Pisces - August 29- 10:22 PM Eastern Time)

Inspiration brings
Joy like an open window
Brings a breath of air

What's Happening?

As we move into this full moon there is a further intensification of whatever energies, stories, dramas, or conflicts are up front and center for you. Time seems to be flying at times and yet it seems to come to a screeching halt occasionally. Perhaps this is to free us up from time itself into the state of being and acceptance that allows the flow of life. Coming back from a camp with parents and children, it seemed that the issue that was up for many is how to let go of the thoughts and reactions that keep us from being our authentic selves. It was obvious to all that the children were far more authentic than the adults who seemed to wear many masks made up of beliefs and rules that don't belong to them. It is a challenge not to pass these masks on to our children.
When the moon is in Pisces we need quiet time as it is easy to go into sensory overload. It is a time to listen to inner voices and allow the creative juices to flow and share new perspectives that come.

Creativity
Feeds my spirit and body
Nourishing soul food

Upcoming Workshops

The Fall 2004 programs that I will be facilitating include:

  • September 24-26 Dancing into the Darkness: Entering the Jaguar Dreaming Lodge. This is held at Shequaga in Dansville near Rochester, NY. Ritual, talking circle, mask-making, journeying, and dreaming! Working with the Equinox energy we walk consciously into our dreams through the crystal that is the West gate of the Soul to consciously dream our lives.

Wake up those dream seeds
Living deep in your belly
Catch and nourish them

  • October 23, 1-5 PM Pathways to Peace - for parents, teachers, homeschoolers, & those who work with children - in Victor, NY. This is an introduction to a program for educating children in a holistic way that honors their whole being - body, emotions, mind, and spirit. Come and learn about how to implement emotional awareness, spiritual problem solving, and energy education in your home or school.

The Pathways to Peace
Weave inner and outer roads
Into harmony

  • December 12, 1-5 PM The Dancing that is the Stillness - Entering the North Gate in Victor, NY.
In the North we must learn to dance with the breath and use sound vibration to clear the mind. With clear focus and stillness we enter into the Mind of God. Entering the Circle of the Soul through the North Gate represents the mastery of mind, where thoughts and images serve unity rather than separation.

Singing the Star Song
With angelic harmony
In perfect silence

Dancing the Star Path
Through spiraling galaxies
In perfect stillness

Ritual

What Mask Do I Wear? - Take some construction paper of whatever color you like and cut it to the shape of your face. Put some eyes, nose, mouth, etc. or whatever face you might like on the front of the mask. Then spend some time looking at what faces you show to others that don't feel like you and write words that represent these faces on the front of the mask. For example, I might put on my mask of happiness when sad is what I am feeling or my "I'm perfect" mask when underneath I feel flawed. It could be that I play the victim when secretly I feel responsible for my life.

On the back of the mask write the words that represent the parts of yourself that you do not show to others. On the full moon, if you choose, burn the mask. This represents no longer having the need to mask parts of yourself to keep them from being seen. When you feel happy, laugh; when you feel sad, cry. Let all parts of yourself be welcome and accepted as they arise.

False faces hide Me
I cannot be seen through them
I am safe but dead

Meditation Exercise
Finding the Authentic Self - Get comfortable and take a few clearing breaths. Move into an inner sacred space - a pond in the woods, a cottage in the woods, a bluff over looking the sea, a temple made of light, or whatever place you usually work in. Call forth your magical child, this unwounded joyful part of you that can look with innocent perception at all things including yourself.

Imagine that this magical child is growing up, remaining magical and authentic but growing older. Continue to progress the child in age until you reach the age that you are now. S/he looks like your twin but s/he needs no masks. What is this authentic part of you like? What does it like to do? Hang out with this part to get to know it better and if it feels right, invite it to come into your heart and return with you, or step into this authentic self and come back that way.

Authentic Self come
Let your energy fill me
Bring freedom at last

This Month's Article
The Age of Masks with Few Eyes

We live in an age of masks. My masks were gifted to me by my ancestors - very old masks, cracking a bit from age. It took me a long time to carve out the eyes so I could see through the mask. I look in the mirror and I see my eyes looking back through the holes I have carved. That is how I know that the mask is still in place. When there were no holes I thought I was the mask.

False faces are worn to hide what is real. Where do we ever get such crazy ideas that we must hide what is real? A story I like is that our parents place these false faces on us when we are babies sleeping. We tear them off as soon as we wake but after awhile they start to feel comfortable and we forget to take them off. Then finally we don't even notice that they are there.
