October Full Moon (Introduction) Dancing through my days Join this joyful dance! Thank goodness some of the energy from this summer has cleared and things seem to be moving forward again. Perhaps we are just learning to flow more with the unexpected. What I do know is that the more harmonious and present I am in this moment, the more beautiful the journey becomes. But to stay awake, aware, and present in these times of change takes all the skills that I have mastered (and some of the ones I haven't) over the years. The Earth changes are with us not only in what is happening in nature, but in the earthquakes and eruptions that disturb what once seemed to be smooth ground in our lives. Distractions abound "Be still,"
says my soul

Weaving and mending Mirrors of the Soul Harvest Moon - Get some colored pencils or crayons and a blank piece of paper. Sit quietly out in nature, if possible, and begin to focus on what has come into your life during the last cycle of a year. What grew in the garden of your life that has nourished you in some way? It could be something that nourished your physical, emotional, mental or spiritual body. It could be physical things, projects, new awareness, friendships, daily practices, etc. As soon as you have focused on something, hold gratitude in your heart and draw a symbol for that thing on your paper. When it feels complete, continue the process with another thing that you have harvested, until your paper is filled with these blessings. You might then complete the picture using colors to link all the symbols together. Hang this picture where you can see it and give thanks daily over the next moon cycle. Gratitude fills me The Great Mother Bear - On the full moon, Friday October 10th, or a day or two before or after, sit in a quiet space and focus on your breath to clear your mind. Imagine yourself walking on a path in the mountains.Perhaps there are some late fall berries on the bushes along the path. As you taste them, their sweetness makes you smile. You round a curve and come upon a very large bear also tasting
the sweetness of these last treats of the season. You stand still and
she looks at you, very long and deep. She turns and begins walking away
from you and you know that she wants you to follow. She climbs up onto
a rock ledge and you see the gaping black hole in the stone wall. Again
she looks back at you and waits for you to climb up next to her and touch
the thick fur on her back. She stands still waiting while you climb on
her broad back, feeling the fur beneath you and grasping it with your
fingers. Then she begins walking. You feel the movement of her lumbering gate as she walks
into the darkness of the cave. Only her breath and the sound of her soft
feet echo within the darkness as you feel her warmth beneath you. The
entrance to the cave is but a pinhole now as all light seems gone. You
sense that you are descending deep into the Earth and the abyss of yourself.
As she carries you deeper into the darkness, you begin to sense her thoughts.
"We are here to find something that you lost," she says. "Soon
we will enter the chamber of lost soul parts and you will find an important
part of yourself that was lost long ago. Whatever part you are aware of
has been waiting for you to find it. Invite it to come into your heart,
so you can bring it home with you." With that, the lumbering gate of this Great Mother Bear stops and you slide off her back. The faint light that glows in the next chamber beckons you and you enter the chamber by yourself. Take some time to look around and see what is there. Look for the soul part that is waiting for you and invite it to come home with you. When you feel complete with that, come back to the bear and climb on her back. With the soul part in your heart, feel the bear ascending back up out of the black depths toward the pinhole of light that is the entrance to the cave. When you arrive outside the cave, slide off this Great Mother Bear and thank her for bringing you safely back home to yourself. Take a nice deep breath of air and come back into your physical body awareness. Place your hands over your heart and welcome this soul part back home. Spend some time journaling and connecting with this part. Seeds of golden light You are home at last A Word from Our Sponsor.... We're having a sale on New Moon Rising and Grandmothers of the Wind by Linda Heron Wind, Ph.D. $10 each through the end of this year. They make great gifts! Closing the Gap I have to laugh at myself sometimes because there is nothing else to do but either laugh or cry - and I feel much better when I laugh! My mind thinks it has so much knowledge - all the books
I've read and workshops I've attended. This knowledge is often displayed
as others consult the encyclopedia of my mind on various topics, looking
for solutions and remedies for their life situations. As my mind speaks
its wisdom, I listen and often an inner voice says, "But you can't
do that yet." A brief flicker of guilt comes up - that I am giving
someone else instructions on how to do something that I cannot do myself
- but then I laugh and say, "It's just the gap!" Perhaps I laugh because I am grateful to be aware of the
gap or maybe it is because I know that everyone has a gap between what
they know and what they can do. The gap is much easier to recognize in
others than it is in ourselves, and it is often the source of judgment
about others as well as ourselves. I wonder how we ever developed the
expectation that there shouldn't be a gap or the idea that having a gap
is failure. Certainly I strive in my life to close the gap, but just
as I close the gap on one piece of knowledge, another gap appears elsewhere
that I had not seen before. Learning to laugh when you notice the gap
is an important part of "gap management." Here are some other
things I have learned about gaps:
For example, I discovered that there was a gap between what
I knew about how to deal with a pain in my back and what I was actually
doing about it. I knew (and tell others) to talk to their back to find
out what it has to say, tone and vibrate the area with color, use visualizations
to see it healed, ask for a dream about it, etc. But what was I doing?
I was taking some Motrin, feeling depressed, whining to friends about
it, hoping it would feel better soon. A big gap was present between what
I knew and what I was actually doing. As soon as I was aware of the gap,
I laughed - maybe a bit faint but it was a laugh. I looked at the options available from what I knew and I
looked for the part of me that stood in the way of doing them - fear that
they wouldn't work, not wanting to have to do anything, and the part that
just would rather whine. I was able to point out to those parts of myself
that their approach was not working very well and then set out to try
one of the things that I knew how to do. I focused on seeing my back healed
and feeling joyful about it, and maintained that focus and feeling throughout
the day. By evening my back was better. And that gap was smaller! Releasing all fear Moving into fear
